The Drone that Crossed Thai Border and Exploded in Phop Phra District, Tak Province

On June 2,2026,  there was a “suicide” drone incident occured in the  Phop Pra District, Tak Province, Thailand. At the time of the incident, heavy fighting was taking place on the Myanmar side of the border. A “suicide” drone from an unidentified party of Myanmar Forces crossed the Thai Border, crashed into a tree and landed by roadside of a chili farm where migrant workers were working.

A bomb carried by the drone dislodged and killed three members of a Myanmar migrant family and seriously injured two other Myanmar migrant workers. The deceased were identified as Ms. Khaing (27), her husband Mr. Thura (37), and their 11 year old son. All three sustained severe shrapnel injuries and were transported to a hospital but died while en route.  The other two victims were also sent to Mae Sot Hospital for further medical assessment. Officials from Phop Phra Station and local authorities declared the scene as a dangerous area and issued a warning to residents in order to avoid moving any suspicious objects they encounter.

According to DVB (Myanmar Local News), the residents of Myawaddy reported that approximately 200 civilians living along the Thai-Myanmar border fled their homes and crossed into Thailand following the renewed fighting on 2 June 2026. The clashes were reportedly linked to an attack by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) on a Myanmar military outpost at Waw Lay, located approximately 70 kilometers (44 miles) south of Myawaddy in Karen State, Myanmar.
