The next Strategic Forum / Chairman’s Circle event will be hosted on October 29, 2013 and focus on the topic “ASEAN Economic Community 2015 : Impact on the local economy.” The half-day event will host Mr. Kavi Chongkittavorn as a keynote speaker on the challenges and opportunities that the increased regional integration in ASEAN represents. A panel discussion will then provide the occasion to hear three experienced speakers; Dr. Sandro Calvani who will speak on pro-poor policies with the added comparison of a European perspective, Mr. Kee Beom Kim from the International Labour Organisation will raise questions of how to strengthen SMEs for decent and productive jobs in ASEAN and Dr. Supruet Thavornyutikarn, a lecturer from Thammasat University, will outline the future economic perspectives after ASEAN 2015.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) make up more than 90 % of the companies in ASEAN member countries’ and stand for a large part of the domestic employment. How SMEs can be prepared for ASEAN and what effect the AEC will have on SMEs is a crucial question as countries seek deeper collaboration. The Chairman’s Circle will take place in the morning and will also provide an excellent opportunity to meet and network with civil society actors, representatives from regional organisation as well as with private businesses and government representatives.
