Stay Safe Training for UN/ (I)NGO
Security Managers and Security Focal Points
January 7 – 11, 2013
Imperial Queens Park Hotel
Bangkok, Thailand
What are the essentials of a proper risk assessment? Which mitigation measures can reduce the vulnerability of an International NGO in daily business? Representatives of the United Nations and various international non-governmental organizations from Iraq, Jordan, Myanmar, Pakistan and Thailand took the chance to share experiences and to improve their skills in threat and risk management. For five days national and international security managers and security focal points participated in the “Stay Safe Training for UN/ (I)NGO” of HDFF and discussed all kind of safety and security related topics. The first training in 2013 took place in the Imperial Queens Park Hotel in Downtown Bangkok under supervision of the Human Development Training Center (HDTC). Offering a variegated mix of theoretical parts about security management and leadership in combination with practical exercises in first aid, fire fighting and a simulated hostage situation. The mutual exchange in the multinational group, especially the wide range of experiences of participants from low and high risk countries, created a productive work atmosphere. Thus, the huge variety of threats, ranging from a high number of travel accidents caused by infrastructural problems up to harassments through dangerous terrorist groups, to international NGOs became visible. The experiences made, during the training, should provide new ideas and concepts for the participants to decrease the potential vulnerability of their organizations and to help to increase their protection skills in order to save lives.
