On 25 March 2014, HDFF is organising a half-day Chairman’s Circle event on the topic “Ready for transboundary environmental challanges?” in ASEAN. With a perspective in regards to the upcoming ASEAN integration for 2015, this event will discuss the opportunities and challenges for ASEAN’s Socio-Cultural Community pillar as environmental issues continues to expand across Southeast Asia.

Keynote speaker will be Mr. Apichai Sunchindah, Independent Specialist on ASEAN issues and former Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation (2005-2008). Dr. Rattakul will provide insights into “ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and its response to regional environmental challenges”that will open the event.

Following this, Dr. Eric Kemp-Benedict, Director of the Stockholm Environment Institute in Bangkok, will discuss the approach towards sustainable energy in Southeast Asia.  Dr. Adis Israngkura, Advisor to the Natural Resources and Environment Program of the Thailand Research Institute, will provide a deeper insight into the trends for policy mainstreaming.  And finally, Dr. Chamniern Paul Vorratnchaiphan, Country Representative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, will present on the role of ASEAN for landscape strategies.

The half-day event will encourage ample opportunities for discussion and questions from all participants.  Coffee and lunch will also be provided.
