On the 10th of June, 2014, the Human Development Forum Foundation is holding the fifth Chairman’s Circle of the year, to raise awareness of ASEAN integration. Co-hosting with The Asia Foundation (TAF), this upcoming half-day strategic forum will focus on ‘ASEAN 2015: Outside Perspectives”, coping with the future role of ASEAN. As the target for completing the ASEAN integration process in 2015 is nearing, this session will explore the wider role the organization can play in the international realm, looking at both the opportunities and the challenges in issues such as foreign relations, trade, and development, and the role external powers can have in assisting ASEAN to establish itself as the biggest regional organization in Asia. In discussing how influential external actors view ASEAN, the hosts HDFF and TAF also aim to raise awareness of any obstacles and issues surrounding the organization’s future potential as a main regional actor.

Keynote Speaker:
HDFF and TAF are honored to have His Excellency Jesús Miguel Sanz, Ambassador of the Delegation of the the European Union to Thailand, as our keynote speaker. He will be presenting on ‘ASEAN 2015: An Outside Perspective from Europe’.
Panelist speakers:
Ms. Dana Stinson, Representative from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will be presenting on ‘ASEAN 2015: Challenges and Opportunities from the U.S. Perspective’.
Mr. David Oberhuber, Country Director of German International Cooperation (GIZ), will be presenting on ‘ASEAN 2015: Conducive Frameworks for Conducting Business’.
After the success of our Chairman’s Circle last month (May 7, 2014), we expect a great turnout and much thoughtful discussion surrounding ASEAN and the views and perspectives from external actors.
